You can use any yarn and hook you have or love.

Terminology:
st – stitch
sts – stitches
CH – chain stitch
DC – double crochet stitch (Yarn over the hook once)

Instruction:

To begin, make an odd number of chains.

Row 1: Skip 3 chains and make one double crochet stitch (DC) in the 4th chain, CH one, skip CH and make DC one, CH, skip CH, DC one, *CH, skip CH, DC one *repeat this process to the last chain; DC one in the last chain.
Row 2: CH 3 and turn your work; make DC 2 in the second stitch, *DC 2 in every DC *repeat entire row; DC one in the last st.
Row 3: CH 3 and turn your work, make DC one between the next two DC sts, CH one, DC one between the next two DC sts *CH one, DC one between the next two DC sts *repeat entire row except for the last stitch; DC one in the last st.
Row 4: CH 3 and turn your work; make DC 2 in the second stitch, *DC 2 in every DC *repeat entire row; DC one in the last st.
