319 – Crochet Spike Stitch Tutorial

You can see Step by step instructions and a video tutorial on how to crochet a very cute spike stitch pattern.

You can use this pattern for various clothes and many other things.
I’m going to use two colors of yarn.

You will need:
You can use any yarn and hook you have or love.

Terminology:

st – stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet stitch
Spike st – one or two or three stitch down

Instructions:
To begin, chain 17 or any multiple of 7 + 3

I’m going to use a white color of yarn.
Row 1: Skip chain and make SC in the second chain. Make one SC in each chain across. Total 16 SCs. Turn your work.

Rows 2-4: CH one and make one SC in each stitch across. Total 16 SCs. Turn your work.

Now switch to a green-colored yarn
Row 5: CH one and make one SC in the next two sts.
*Make spike stitch in the next stitch, just one stitch down.
Make spike st. in the next st. just two st. down.
Make spike st. in the next st. just three st. down.
Make spike st. in the next st. just two st. down.
Make spike st. in the next st. just one st. down.
Make one SC in the next two sts.
*repeat process entire row

Rows 6-8: CH one and make one SC in each stitch across. Turn your work.

Rows 5 – 8 = Pattern
Repeat Rows 5 – 8

Change the color of the yarn every four rows.
