200 – How to crochet a coaster – from circle to square

This is a very simple coaster and easy to make. First we make a circle and then a square. From the circle becomes a square. You can use any yarn and hook you have or love.
You need to know how to crochet the next stitches: Chain Stitch, Single Crochet and Double Crochet stitches.

Terminology:
st – Stitch
SSt – Slip Stitch
Rnd – Round
CH – Chain Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Shell – 4DC Shell with chain space (2 DC+CH +2 DC in one space)

Instructions:

To begin make a magic ring, which is just a very loose slip knot.
Rnd 1: 3 chains (CH), 13 double crochet stitches (DC) into the center of the ring; Connect with a SSt; Total 14 stitches.
Rnd 2: 3CH + DC in the first stitch, *2 DC in one stitch *repeat entire row; Connect with a SSt; Total 28 stitches.
Change a color of yarn.
Rnd 3: CH, single crochet stitches (SC) to the end round. Total 28 SC. Connect with a SSt
The number of stitches of the last round must be divisible by four.

Now we make a square.
Rnd 4: CH, SC in the next 3 stitches. Now we make 4DC Shell with CH space (Shell st.). This is the first corner.
6 SC; Shell st. This is the second corner.
6 SC; Shell st. This is the third corner.
6 SC; Shell st. This is the fourth corner.
SC in the last 3 stitches. Connect with a SSt.
Rnd 5: 2 CH, DC in the first stitch. 4 DC to the first corner. Shell stitch in the first corner.
10 DC; Shell st. in the second corner.
10 DC; Shell st. in the third corner.
10 DC; Shell st. in the fourth corner.
DC in the last 5 stitches. Connect with a SSt.
Rnd 6: 2 CH, DC in the first stitch. 6 DC to the first corner. Shell stitch in the first corner.
14 DC; Shell st. in the second corner.
14 DC; Shell st. in the third corner.
14 DC; Shell st. in the fourth corner.
DC in the last 7 stitches. Connect with a SSt.
Rnd 7 (last row): just slip stitches.
