407 – How to Crochet Easy and Beautiful Beanie Hat

You can see Step-by-step instructions and a video tutorial on how to crochet a very simple and nice hat. This is an easy hat tutorial. You can put the pom pom on the top of your hat if you wish. This is an adult hat but you can easily make a child hat.

You will need:

Total Yarn 100 g (164 m / 180 yards), medium 4
Hook Size 5,5 mm (US I/9, UK 5)
Stitch markers
Sewing needle
Scissors

Size: Adult

Width: 24 cm / 9.4 inches
Length: 24 cm / 9.4 inches

Terminology:

st – Stitch
Rnd – round
CH – chain
SC – single crochet
SCBLO – single crochet back loop only
SC2tog – single crochet two stitches together
dec – decrease

Instructions:

First, I’m going to make an edge of the hat

Edge of the hat (Ribbed pattern)
To begin make 9 chains.

Row 1: skip chain one and make SC in every chain across. Total 8 SCs.
Row 2: CH one and turn; make SC in the back loop only (SCBLO) in every stitch across; Total 8 SCBLOs – 6 cm / 2.3 inches

Rows 3 – 64: CH one and turn; make SCBLO in every stitch across;
The ribbed pattern is very stretchable.
Rows 64 = 48cm / 19 inches
If you need a different size, make more or fewer rows.
Measure on your head.

Now, we’re going to crochet around the edge of the hat (body of hat)
Slip stitch to the first row just to close the round.

Rnd 1: One row – one SC stitch. Total 64 SCs.

We don’t close the round with a slip stitch but continue to crochet SC stitches around. In this way, we will work until the desired depth of the hat.

I made 17 rows
Measure from the beginning of our work it is 20 cm / 8 inches
If you need a different size, make more or fewer rows.
Measure on your head.

Now, we will make a few more rows until the end.
We will decrease the number of stitches in those rows.
Put the stitch marker at the beginning of the row

Row 1 of dec: *3 SCs, SC2tog *repeat entire row
Row 2 of dec: *2 SCs, SC2tog *repeat entire row
Row 3 of dec: *2 SCs, SC2tog *repeat entire row
Row 4 of dec: *1 SC, SC2tog *repeat entire row
Row 5 of dec: *1 SC, SC2tog *repeat entire row
Row 6 of dec (last row): SC2tog entire row

Pull the yarn through the loops of the last row with the needle and pull tight.

Sew the first and the last row with yarn and a sewing needle.

If you wish, put the pom pom on the top of your hat.
