This step by step tutorial will show you how to crochet a Shell Hat. This is a very simple beanie and easy to make. You need to know how to crochet the next stitches: Chain Stitch, Single Crochet, Double Crochet stitches and 4DC Shell with CH.

You will need:
Hook Size 5mm
Yarn 50 g

Size: Adult
52 cm /20 inches

Terminology:
SSt – Slip Stitch
Rnd – Round
CH – Chain Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
V-st – 2 DC in one stitch
4DC Shell with CH (2DC+1CH+2DC in one stitch)

Instructions:
5 chains in a circle
Rnd 1: CH 3; 17 DC into the center of the ring; Connect with a SSt. Total 18 stitches.
Rnd 2: CH 3; V-st; *1 DC; V-st *repeat to the end Rnd; Connect with a SSt. Total 27 stitches.
Rnd 3: CH 3; 1 DC; V-st; *2 DC; V-st *repeat to the end Rnd; Connect with a SSt. Total 36 stitches.
Rnd 4: CH 3; 1 DC; V-st in the next two stitch; *2 DC; V-st in the next two stitch *repeat to the end Rnd; Connect with a SSt. Total 54 stitches.
Pattern
Rnd 5: CH 3; *4DC Shell with CH; skip stitch; DC; skip stitch; 4DC Shell with CH * repeat to the end Rnd; Connect with a SSt. Total 84 stitches.
Rnd 6: CH 3; 4DC Shell with CH in a chain space; *DC over DC; 4DC Shell with CH in a chain space *repeat to the end Rnd; Connect with a SSt. Total 84 stitches.
Rnds 7-13: Repeat Rnd 6
Last Rnd: CH; SC to the end row
