You will need:
Total Yarn approximately 100 g / 300 m / 328 yds
100 g – 3.5 oz
Weight #3 or Light yarn
Hook Size 4.5 mm (US 7, UK 7)

Size: Adult
Length: 23 cm / 9 inches
Width: 24 cm / 9.4 inches

If you need a different size, feel free to either add or subtract the number of rows.
It’s a good idea to measure your work.

Terminology:
st – stitch
sl.st. – slip stitch
Rnd – Round/Row
Incr – increase
CH – chain stitch
DC – double crochet stitch
FPDC (Front Post Double Crochet)
BPDC (Back Post Double Crochet)

Instructions:

To begin, make 4 chains. Make a slip stitch to close the round.

Rnd 1: CH 2, DC 12 into the center of the ring, Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round. Total 12 DCs
Rnd 2: (incr 12 sts) CH 2, DC 2 in every stitch across; Total 24 DCs; Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round.

Rnd 3: (incr 12 sts) CH 2, *DC, DC 2 in one stitch *repeat the entire row; Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round.
Total 36 DCs
Rnd 4: (incr 12 sts) CH 2, *DC 2, DC 2 in one st. *repeat the entire row; Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round. Total 48 DCs
Rnd 5: (incr 12 sts) CH 2, *DC 3, DC 2 in one st. *repeat the entire row; Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round. Total 60 DCs
Rnd 6: (incr 12 sts) CH 2, *DC 4, DC 2 in one st. *repeat the entire row; Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round. Total 72 DCs
The diameter of these first 6 rows is about 15 cm / 6 inches. It is for children aged 3 – 10 years.

I’ll do one more row.
Rnd 7: (incr 12 sts) CH 2, *DC 5, DC 2 in one st. *repeat the entire row; Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round. Total 84 DCs

The diameter of these first 7 rows is about 18,4 cm / 7.25 inches. It is L size beanie for adults.
For size XL, make one more, eighth round in which you will add stitches.

Rnd 8: (No more increase) CH3 and make BPDC one in every stitch across. Slip stitch to the first st just to close the round.

Repeat Rnd 8 until you measure 18 cm / 7 inches / 19 rnds
If you need a different size, make more or fewer rows.

Rnds 1-6: Ribbed sts; CH 3; Alternate between FPDC and BPDC.
