341 – Quick and Easy Crochet Cropped Sweater V-neck Vest
You can see Step by step instructions and a video tutorial on how to crochet a short sweater vest. The vest is very cozy and comfy to wear. I made a pattern that is not visible well on this colorful yarn, but if you use one-color yarn, you will see that the pattern is very interesting and nice.

Instructions:
FRONT
First, I’m going to make the edging. (Ribbed pattern)
To begin make 11 chains.
Row 1: skip chain and make SC in every chain across. Total 10 SCs.
Row 2: CH and turn; make SC in the back loop only (SCBLO) in every stitch across; Total 10 SCBLO
Row 3: CH and turn; make SCBLO in every stitch across; Total 10 SCBLO
Continue repeat Row 2, to be a total of 60 rows (multiple of 2)
Vest edging is very stretchy.
If you need a different size, make more or fewer rows. Measure on your body.
Now, we’re going to crochet the body of the vest (FRONT).
Row 1: I will make double crochet stitches (DC). One row one loop (60 rows = 60 DC stitches). In this row add 6 more stitches.
CH 2 (don’t count as a loop), DC in the next 4 rows, DC2 in the next row, *DC in the next 9 rows, DC2 in the next row *repeat this five times; DC in the last 5 rows; Total 66 DCs.
Row 2: CH 2 (don’t count as a loop), DC in the next 10 sts., 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 12 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the last 10 stitches. Total 66 DCs
2 crossed DC – Skip one stitch and make one DC in the next stitch. Then we’re going to make a DC in skipped stitch working behind the previous stitch.
Continue repeat Row 2, to be a total of 12 rows.
If you want, you can make more rows to make the vest longer.
Row 2 =Pattern
Row 13: In this row, we will decrease 4 stitches. Two stitches at the beginning of the row and two more stitches at the end of the row.
CH 2 (don’t count as a loop), next, decrease two stitches (make DC3tog), DC in the next 7 sts., 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 12 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 7 stitches, next, decrease two stitches (DC3tog in the last 3 sts.)
Row 14: Decrease one more stitch on each side.
CH 2 (don’t count as a loop), next, decrease one stitch (make DC2tog), DC in the next 5 sts., 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 12 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 sts, 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 5 stitches, decrease one stitch (DC2tog in the last 2 sts.)
Now we are going to make EDGES.
Make the edges on both sides. Between edges crochet a pattern.
Row 1: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (Alternate between FPDC and DC); Continue to repeat pattern to the last 7 sts. Alternate between DC and FPDC(edges) to the end row.
Row 2: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (Alternate between BPDC and DC); Continue to repeat pattern to the last 7 sts. Alternate between DC and BPDC (edges) to the end row.
Row 3: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (Alternate between FPDC and DC); Continue to repeat pattern to the last 7 sts. Alternate between DC and FPDC (edges) to the end row.
Row 4: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (Alternate between BPDC and DC); Continue to repeat pattern to the last 7 sts. Alternate between DC and BPDC (edges) to the end row.
For the BACK side make 17 rows with edges.
Continue to make the FRONT side
After making the first 4 rows with edges, make a V neckline.
Row 5: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (alternate between FPDC and DC); 2 crossed DC three times, make DC to the last 7 sts. Make edges (alternate between DC and FPDC to the end row)
Row 6: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (Alternate between BPDC and DC), next, decrease one stitch (make DC2tog), make DC to the crossed stitches, then make 2 crossed DC three times, make edges (Alternate between DC and BPDC FPDC to the end row)
Row 7: CH 3 (as the first stitch), make edges (Alternate between FPDC and DC), 2 crossed DC three times, DC in the next 8 sts, DC2tog, make edges (Alternate between FPDC and DC)
Rows 8 – 15: like Rows 5 – 6
Rows 16 – 17: without decreasing stitches
Use yarn and sew front and back pieces.
