294 – DIY Tutorial – How to Crochet a Sweater with Sleeves

You can see Step by step instructions and a video tutorial on how to crochet a very simple sweater with sleeves.
This easy crochet sweater is very cozy and comfy to wear. This sweater is crocheted in 4 panels – front, back, and 2 sleeves and uses 3 different stitches throughout the entire pattern – single crochet, double crochet, and double treble crochet (DTC) stitches!

You will need:

Hook Size 4 mm
Cotton Yarn 500 g / 1150 m / 1250 yds (Weight #3)
Ball (50g) contains 115 m/ 125 yds
Scissors
Tape measure
Stitch markers

Size: M
Width = 50 cm / 19.6 in
Length = 60 cm / 23.5 in

Terminology:
st – stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet stitch (yarn over the hook once)
DTC – double treble crochet (yarn over the hook three times)
DC2tog – DC 2 together

Instructions:

First, I’m going to make piece one (FRONT)
I’m going to make 82 chains for size M. Multiple of 4 plus 2
If you need a different size, feel free to either add or subtract from this chain number.
You can easily customize a blouse to your liking.
See the initial number of chains for other sizes.

Different sizes:
S = 74 chains
M = 82 chains
L = 90 chains
XL = 98 chains
XXL = 116 – 124 chains
Multiple of 4 + 2 for all sizes

Row 1: Skip chain one and make single crochet stitches (SC) entire row. Total 81 SCs (SC multiple of 4+1). Turn your work.
Row 2: CH 3 (as the first stitch), DC entire row. Total 81 stitches (mult.4 + 1)
Row 3: chain two, skip 3 stitches and make DTC (double treble crochet – yarn over the hook three times) in the next st; DC into the first skipped stitch, DC into the second skipped stitch, DC into the third skipped stitch, *skip 3 st, DTC in the next st; DC 3 into the skipped 3 stitches, *repeat this process entire row. DC one into the last stitch. Turn your work.
Row 4: chain one and make SC entire row. Total 81 SCs. Turn your work.
Row 5 (as row 3): chain two, skip 3 stitches, and make DTC (double treble crochet – yarn over the hook three times) in the next st; DC into the first skipped stitch, DC into the second skipped stitch, DC into the third skipped stitch, *skip 3 st, DTC in the next st; DC 3 into the skipped 3 stitches, *repeat this process entire row. DC one into the last stitch. Turn your work.
Rows 6 – 8: CH 3 (as the first stitch), DC entire row. Total 81 stitches

Pattern = Rows 3 – 8

Rows 9 – 53: Repeat Pattern
If you want, you can make more rows to make the sweater longer.
Row 54: chain one and make SC entire row. Total 81 SCs.

The shoulder part of the blouse

Count 23 stitches from the end of the row and put the stitch marker. It will be the first shoulder part of the sweater.
Repeat this for the other shoulder part.

Row 1 – 3: CH 3, DC in the next 22 stitches. Total 23 sts.

Both parts of the blouse are the same. FRONT = BACK

Use your yarn and sew two pieces together at the shoulder.

Sleeves

Measure 20 cm / 7.8 inches from the top of the shoulders and put the stitch marker. That will mark an opening for the sleeve.
Make sleeves. Repeat pattern.

First row: In each row (except rows of single crochet stitches) make 2 SCs. Make one SC at the joint (top of the shoulder part). It is important that the number of stitches is divisible by 4 plus one (because of the pattern). I’ll make 61 SCs.
Row 1: CH and make 61 SCs (SC multiple of 4+1).
If you want, you can make more stitches to make the sleeve wider.
But, It is important that the number of stitches is divisible by 4 plus one (mult. of 4 + 1)

Row 2: CH 3 (as the first stitch), DC entire row. Total 61 stitches (mult.4 + 1)
Total 61 SCs.

In the next row, we’ll decrease the number of stitches for two. One stitch on each side.
Row 6: CH 3 (first st), DC2tog, DC to the last three stitches in a row; DC2tog, DC in the last st.
Row 7: CH 3, DC entire row. Total 59 stitches

In the next row, we’ll decrease the number of stitches for two. One stitch on each side.
Row 8: CH 3, DC2tog, DC to the last three stitches in a row; DC2tog, DC in the last st.

Pattern = Rows 3 – 8

Rows 9 – 26: repeat the pattern three more times

Rows 27 – 46: Repeat pattern but don’t change the number of stitches in a row (no decrease)
If you want, you can make more rows to make the sleeve longer.
Last row: SCs
Length = 50 cm / 19.6 in

Use your yarn and sew sleeves, front and back pieces.
