241 – How to Crochet a Summer Beach Handbag

Today I will show you how to crochet a summer beach handbag.
I used two patterns and 10 connected squares.

You will need:
Hook Size 3 mm
Scissors
Tape measure
Stitch markers
Sewing needle
Cotton Yarn 250 g (5 balls of cotton yarn. Each ball contains 137 yds / 125 m)

Terminology:
st – stitch
sl.st – slip stitch
Rnd – round
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet (yarn over the hook once)
TC – treble crochet (yarn over the hook twice)
TC2tog /TC3tog (Claster st) – TC 2 or 3 together
Shell – 6 DC Shell with chain 3 space (3 DC + 3 CH +3 DC in one space)

Size: Width = 41 cm /16 in Length = 38 cm / 15 in

Instructions:

Make the first square:
To begin make a magic ring, which is just a very loose slip knot. 
Rnd 1: 4 chains (CH), 16 treble crochet stitches (TC) into the center of the ring; Connect with a slip st;
Rnd 2: CH 4 + TC2tog in the first stitch, CH 2, *TC3tog in the next st, CH 2 *repeat entire row; Connect with a sl.st; Make another sl.st. Total 16 TC3tog.
Rnd 3:
CH 3 + DC 2 + CH 3 + DC 3 in the chain two space. This is the first corner.
CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2
DC 3 + CH 3 + DC 3 in the next chain two space. This is the second corner.
CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2
DC 3 + CH 3 + DC 3 in the next chain two space. This is the third corner.
CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2
DC 3 + CH 3 + DC 3 in the next chain two space. This is the fourth corner.
CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2, SC in the next chain two space, CH 2
Connect with a sl.st.
Rnd 4: SC repeat entire row
CH + SC 2, SC 3 in the first corner, SC 3 over DC 3, 4 x SC 2 in the chain two space, SC 3 over DC 3, SC 3 in the second corner, SC 3 over DC 3, 4 x SC 2 in the chain two space …. repeat this process.
Connect with a sl.st; We’ll make three more slip stitches.

Make 9 more squares (Total 10 squares).
Connect squares with a sewing needle.

Bottom of the bag
Now we are going to make a bottom of the bag.

Make 13 chains.
Row 1: skip chain, SC in the next chain, SC to the end row. Total 12 SC.
Row 2: chain one and make SC to the end row. Total 12 SC.
Rows 3 – 71: repeat row 2
Now we’re working around. We’ll make single crochet stitches.
One SC in each of the four corner
12 SC stitches up and down
71 SC stitches on each side
That’s a total of 170 SC stitches
Continue to make 6 rounds of single crochet stitches.
Rnd 7: double crochet (DC)
Rnd 8: single crochet (SC)
Rnds 7 – 8 = Pattern 1
Rnds 9 – 26: repeat Pattern 1
From the seventh round, connect the circle with a slip stitch

Connect the bottom of the bag and the squares with a sewing needle
Continue to work Pattern 1
Repeat Pattern 1 four times
Total 171 stitches in the last row

Pattern 2
Multiple of 3
Rnd 1: CH 3 + DC 2 in one stitch, skip 2 st, *DC 3 in one st, skip 2 st *repeat this process to the end row; Connect with a sl.st.
Rnd 2: sl. st, CH 3 + DC 2 in one stitch, skip 2 st, *DC 3 in one st, skip 2 st *repeat this process to the end row; Connect with a sl.st.
Rnd 3 – 4: repeat Rnd 2

Do 3 more rows of single crochet stitches.

Now we’ll make a straps.
Put the stitch marker in the 18th loop. Count 10 loops and put another stitch marker. There are 10 loops from the first to the second stitch marker.
Repeat this on the other side.
Do the same on the back

Row 1: CH one end make SC stitches between two markers. Total 10 SC. Turn
Row 2: SC to the end row. Total 10 SC. Turn
Repeat Row 2. Measure 60 cm / 23,5 inches
Connect the strap to the bag with a hook.
Make sl. st. from one stitch marker to another.
Make another same strap
