217 – DIY Tutorial Crochet Simple Vest

You will need:
Hook Size 4 mm
Scissors
Tape measure
Stitch markers
Yarn 450 gr
9 balls of green yarn. Each ball contains 93 yds/ 85 m

Terminology:
st – stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet
V st – DC + CH + DC in one stitch

Size: M
Width = 50 cm / 19,3 in Length = 58 cm / 23 in

Number of chains for different sizes of vests:
Back side
S = 76 chains
M = 82 chains
L = 88 chains
XL = 94 chains
XXL = 100 chains
½ Front side
S = 40 chains
M = 43 chains
L = 46 chains
XL = 49 chains
XXL = 52 chains

Multiple of 3 plus 1 (for all sizes)

Instructions:

1/2 Front side

Make 43 chains (Multiple of 3 plus 1)
Row 1: skip 3 chains, DC in the next 40 chains, Total 41 stitches (Multiple of 3 + 2). Turn your work.
Row 2: 3 CH, skip 1 stitch, V st, *skip 2 stitches, V st * repeat, skip 1 stitch, DC in the last stitch in this row. Turn your work.
Row 3: 3 CH, *3 DC in a chain space *repeat, DC in the last stitch in this row. Total 41 st. Turn your work.

Rows 2-3 = Pattern 1
Rows 4 – 25: Repeat Pattern 1
Pattern repeated 11 times

Pattern 2
Row 26: CH, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat to the end row. Turn your work.
Row 27: 3 CH, *DC in a chain space, DC over SC *repeat to the end row. Total 41 st. Turn your work.

Rows 26 – 27 = Pattern 2

Row 28: as row 26
Row 29: 6 slip stitches, 2 CH, DC to the end row. Total 35 st. Turn your work.
Rows 30 – 37: Repeat Pattern 2 (pattern repeated 4 times ). Total 35 st.

Row 38: as row 26; 10 slip stitches, CH, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat to the end row. Total 25 st.
Rows 39 – 44: reduce the number of stitches for 1 in every row
Row 39: 3 CH; 23 DC; Total 24 st.
Row 40: CH, skip st, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat; Total 23 st.
Row 41: 3 CH; 21 DC; Total 22 st.
Row 42: CH, skip st, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat; Total 21 st.
Row 43: 3 CH; 19 DC; Total 20 st.
Row 44: CH, skip st, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat; Total 19 st.
Row 45: 3 CH; 18 DC; Total 19 st.
Row 46: CH, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat; Total 19 st.
Row 47: 3 CH; 18 DC; Total 19 st.
Row 48: CH, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat; Total 19 st.
Row 49: 3 CH; 18 DC; Total 19 st.

Width = 25 cm / 10 in Length = 58 cm / 23 in

Work the other half front piece as a mirror reflection.

Back side

Make 82 chains (Multiple of 3 plus 1)
Row 1: skip 3 chains, DC in the next 79 chains, Total 80 stitches (Multiple of 3 + 2). Turn your work.
Row 2: 3 CH, skip 1 stitch, V st, *skip 2 stitches, V st * repeat, skip 1 stitch, DC in the last stitch in this row. Turn your work.
Row 3: 3 CH, *3 DC in a chain space *repeat, DC in the last stitch in this row. Turn your work.

Rows 2 – 3 = Pattern 1
Rows 4 – 25: Repeat Pattern 1

Pattern 2

Row 26: CH, SC, *CH, skip st, SC *repeat to the end row. Turn your work.
Row 27: 3 CH, DC to the end row. Total 80 st. Turn your work.
Rows 26 – 27 = Pattern 2
Row 28: as row 26
Row 29: 6 slip stitches, 2 CH, 68 DC. Turn your work.

Repeat Pattern 2 to the 49th row. Total 68 st.

Width = 50 cm / 19.3 in Length = 58 cm / 23 in

Edges – around the vest:
Rows 1 – 3: single crochet stitches
When you finish third row, continue to work single crochet on the bottom.

Edges – armhole: One row of single crochet stitches.
