You can use any yarn and hook you have or love.

Terminology:
st – stitch
CH – chain stitch
DC – double crochet stitch
Puff st. – represents a group of 3 incomplete stitches into the same stitch/place. When you finish crocheting the partial stitches you will then close the stitch by pulling the yarn through all of the loops, except for the last. Now, you have 2 loops on the hook. Make one loop from them.

Row 3: CH 3, DC entire row

Row 4: CH 3, skip 2 sts, Puff st + CH + Puff st + CH + Puff st in one stitch, skip 2 sts *DC5, skip 2 sts, Puff st + CH + Puff st + CH + Puff st in one stitch, skip 2 sts *repeat entire row except for the last st; DC in the last st.
