On this page you can see an interesting way of making a vest. I will show you how to crochet a granny square vest! Pattern is very easy to work. You need to know how to crochet Slip Stitch, Chain Stitch, Single Crochet and Double Crochet.

You will need:

Size hook 3,5 mm
Scissors
Tape measure
Markers
Yarn 300 g
3 balls of gray Yarn. Each ball contains 100g, 426 yds/ 390 m.
Oz 3.52; Nm 3.90
1 m = 1,0936 jardi (yds)

Size: M-L

Terminology:
st – Stitch
sk – Skip
rpt – Repeat
tog – Together
Rnd – Round
SSt – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
3DC Shell – 3 DC in one stitch
6DC Shell – 6 DC in one stitch
4DC Shell with CH-2 space – 2DC+2CH+2DC in one space
6DC Shell with CH-2 space – 3DC+2CH+3DC in one space

Instructions:
Start 5 chains in a circle.
Now we make Granny Square.
Rnd 1: 3CH, 2DC, 2CH, 3DC, 2CH, 3DC, 2CH, 3DC, 2CH, tie it tog with Slip Stitch
Rnd 2: 3 Slip Stitches, 3CH + 2DC + 2CH + 3DC in one space, 3DC+2CH+3DC in one space; 3DC+2CH+3DC in one space; 3DC+2CH+3DC in one space; tie it tog with SSt
We made two rounds of Shells.
Now we make two rounds of double crochet stitches.
Rnd 3: 3CH, DC in the next 2 st. Now we make 4DC Shell with CH-2 space at the first corner. Then we make DC in the next 6 st. Next, we make 4DC Shell with CH-2 space at the second corner. DC in the next 6 st and 4DC Shell with CH-2 space at the third corner. Then we make DC in the next 6 stitches again and 4DC Shell with CH-2 space at the fourth corner. At the end of this round, we are doing DC in the next 3 stitches. Tie it tog with Slip Stitch.
Rnd 4: We continue one more row of double crochet stitches. We make corners like in the previous row. Tie it tog with Slip Stitch. We finished fourth round.
Pattern – alternate between two rows of shells and double crochet stitches.
Rnd 5: 1 SSt and we make round of shells. 3CH, 2DC in one stitch, skip 2 st, 3DC Shell, skip 2 st, 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the first corner, *skip 2 st, 3DC Shell* repeat 4 times, 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the second corner, *skip 2 st, 3DC Shell* repeat 4 times, 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the third corner, *skip 2 st, 3DC Shell* repeat 4 times, 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the fourth corner, *skip 2 st, 3DC Shell* repeat 2 times, tie it tog with SSt. We finished fifth round.
Rnd 6: 3 SSt, make 2 shells; 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the first corner; make 5 shells; 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the second corne; make 5 shells; 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the third corner; make 5 shells; 6DC Shell with CH-2 space at the fourth corner; make 3 shells; tie it tog with SSt. We finished sixth round.
Rnds 7-22: Repeat Rnds 3-6
The side of the square is 45.5 cm / 18 inches

To repeat:
Rule one – Alternate between two rows of shells and double crochet stitches.
Rule two – In round of shells we make 6DC Shell with CH-2 space in every corner.
Rule three – In round of double crochet we make 4DC Shell with CH-2 space in every corner.

Put 2 markers between 13 shells (23cm / 9 inches).

Rnd 23: 3CH, DC to the first corner; 4DC Shell with CH-2 space at the first corner; Continue to make DC stitches to the marker; make 39 chains; skip 13 shells; make 3DC at the second corner; make DC stitches to the third corner; 3DC at the third corner; make 39 chains; skip 13 shells; continue to make DC stitches to the fourth corner; 4DC Shell with CH-2 space at the fourth corner; DC to the end round; tie it tog with SSt.

Rnd 24: We continue one more row of double crochet stitches. When we make the hole, we continue to work only first and last corners. We make them the same way as before. The second and third corner should not work.

Rnds 25-38: Alternate between two rows of shells and double crochet stitches. Make only first and last corners. The second and third corner should not work.

I stop working in a circle and start to make rows. I’ll make 10 rows from the first to the fourth corner.
Row 1: 3CH and DC in a corner; make DC to the end row; make 2DC at the last corner; Turn your work.
Row 2: 3CH, DC to the end row.
Rows 3-10: Alternate between two rows of shells and double crochet stitches.

Ending
We make edges. It’s necessary one round of Shell stitches.
CH, SC, *skip 2 st, 6DC Shell, skip 2 st, SC* repeat entire row.
